Welcome To The Auction!
Gonzaga Hockey Program’s National Capital Hockey Tournament, known as the Purple Puck, was started in December 1993 and described by former Gonzaga president as " the first Gonzaga-sponsored hockey tournament and the first hockey tournament for high school teams in the Washington, D.C. area.” Twenty-three years later we proudly hold that distinction, and continue that tradition in our annual tournament.
The Purple Puck tournament celebrates its 23rd anniversary in 2015, and each year grows in popularity and talent level. This five day, USA Hockey sanctioned tournament has hosted teams across 2 divisions. High School Hockey teams from Canada, Chicago, Ohio have competed in year’s past, and this year the Prep (V1) Division will be hosting Malvern Prep, Academy of New Church and St Joseph’s Prep from Pennsylvania, The Hun School from New Jersey and 3 local rivals: Bishop O’Connell, DeMatha, Calvert Hall. The Varsity (V2) Division will be hosting St Joseph’s Prep, DeMatha II and Robinson Hockey teams.
Each year, the Purple Puck extends our Men for Others motto by collecting donations from our Gonzaga Hockey team families to hold this annual auction to make a donation for local charity. This year, proceeds from this Online Auction will be dedicated to the Friends of Fort Dupont Ice Arena, our home rink, to support their free sponsored programs for local children to participate at the rink throughout the year. Your tax deductible donation will help local children in the SouthEast DC neighborhood, take to the ice in the Kids on Ice, and summer programs to learn to skate and play hockey.
